overview

what?

urin*all is a waterless all-gender urinal that has been designed based on the principle of "Form Follows Function," considering the needs and ergonomics of the users.

how?

urin*all offers contactless use regardless of genitalia. The front part offers contactless urination for people with vulva; the back part is intended for people with penis. With its smooth ceramic surface, urin*all operates without the need for water, and used toilet paper can be disposed of in a separate waste bin.

why?

Urinals are known for their simple design, which allows quick and contactless urination. They contribute to significant water conservation and facilitate nutrient reclamation through the separate collection of urine. The conventional design of toilets and urinals often lacks ergonomic adaptations for people with vulvas, making it challenging or uncomfortable for them to utilize public restroom facilities.

Conclusion Testing in Venice

Leonie Roth and Luisa Tschumi participated with their urin*all the exhibition of the German Pavilion for the 18th Architecture Biennale in Venice. Under the theme "Open for Maintenance / Wegen Umbau geöffnet", the curatorial team presented from May 20 to November 26 2023 progressive ideas and concepts regarding the care, repair and maintenance of architectural structures. A functional prototype of urin*all was exhibited for the first time in a new built washroom.

This test phase from six-month was essential for the further development of urin*all. - We would like to thank the curatorial team for this great opportunity and all the testers for their valuable feedback.

Swiss Design Award

In February 2023, the project urin*all successfully has advanced to the second round of the Swiss Design Awards, as determined by the jury. Unfortunately, urin*all was not among the winning projects. All the finalist projects, including urin*all, have been exhibited from June 12th to 18th, 2023 in Hall 1 of Messe Basel. The Swiss Design Awards exhibition took place at the same time as Art Basel and Design Miami/Basel.
